Fort Nelson East Tunnel tours on 14 November 2026
Royal Armouries is offering guided tours of Fort Nelson's unrestored East Tunnel on 14 November 2026, priced at £12.
Royal Armouries has listed guided East Tunnel Tours at Fort Nelson on Portsdown Hill for Saturday 14 November 2026, with a second date on 16 January 2027.
The Royal Armouries event page says the East Tunnel is normally closed to the public and is one of the last unrestored areas within the fort walls, where original features "remain untouched".
Tour details
Tours on 14 November start at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2pm. Each lasts 60 minutes, costs £12 and is limited to 12 people. The tour is not considered suitable for under 12s, and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-booking is required.
Royal Armouries warns that the route is not accessible. It involves changes in surface, low light levels and walking through the tunnel, with lighting provided by torches and portable units. The East Tunnel is narrower than the main tunnel. Because Fort Nelson is a scheduled ancient monument with uneven ground, visitors are asked to wear sturdy footwear and may be refused entry if their shoes are unsuitable. The organisers also recommend warm layers.
The page states that refund requests will only be considered if made at least 30 days before the booked tour.
Opening times
The Fort Nelson page lists it as open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, in term time, and daily during school holidays. It shows a term-time period to 23 October, a school holiday period from 24 October to 1 November, and booking for 3 to 27 November 2026.
