Fareham Borough Council announced on 14 September 2026 that its annual Christmas Lights Switch On will take place in Fareham town centre on Saturday 21 November 2026, from 10am to 7pm.

The council said the day will have something for all the family, including fun fair rides, festive food and drink, gift stalls and stage and walkabout performers. There will be free children's activities, and Father Christmas will make a special appearance.

Programme

The countdown to the switch on is at 5:30pm under the town centre bandstand. The Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Tina Ellis, and her Mayor's Consort, Cllr Robert Ellis, will do the honours alongside Father Christmas and some of the cast of Fareham Live's Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime.

The Christmas market will be run by Funyard Events. The Courtyard unit in Fareham Shopping Centre will also host an indoor market with stalls offering stocking fillers, crafts, food and gifts.

Performers, stallholders and sponsors

There is a community stage, and the council is looking for performers for timed slots. Spaces are limited and anyone interested should email leisure@fareham.gov.uk. Would-be stallholders can find information at funyardevents.com, and sponsorship options are still available through the council's sponsorship page.

Cllr Frair Burgess, Executive Member for Leisure and Community, described the switch on as the council's "biggest event of the year". Further details are on the council's events pages and in the announcement.
