How do I find an open pharmacy right now?
The NHS find a pharmacy tool lets you enter a town, city or postcode and see nearby pharmacies, and each result links to its opening times. If it is outside normal hours, you can call NHS 111, use 111.nhs.uk or use the NHS App, and it can direct you to the most suitable service for your symptoms. Our GP guide covers what to do about a GP appointment, and our urgent care guide covers A&E and urgent treatment centres.
What is Pharmacy First?
Pharmacy First means most pharmacies can supply prescription medicines for some conditions without a GP appointment. According to the NHS pharmacy help page, the conditions are impetigo (aged 1 year and over), infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over), earache (aged 1 to 17 years), sore throat (aged 5 years and over), sinusitis (aged 12 years and over), urinary tract infections in women aged 16 to 64, and shingles (aged 18 years and over). The same page says pharmacists can also give advice on coughs, colds, ear infections and aches and pains, and that you should contact the pharmacy before visiting to check it offers the service.
